Macklemore and Ryan Lewis Perform ‘Can’t Hold Us’ on NYC Bus

I’m a big fan and I thought this was pretty exciting. Part of this year’s Grammys promotion Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis performed on a NYC bus. It must have been staged to some degree but everyone’s faces do look genuinely enthusiastic.

I heard about it via Colorlines, where they asked on FB how you would feel if Macklemore and Ryan Lewis showed up on your morning commute. There were not so many fans. One poster commented: “I’d ask them to get off the bus before they appropriate that as well.”

Updated. Yes, he is a white hip hop pop artist. Yes, he wrote a song about being gay and himself being not gay. But it’s a beautiful song and same-sex marriage was voted legal in the Washington State elections at the time that song was gaining fame. Did it help? It certainly didn’t hurt. I have always felt that Macklemore is for the people and that is why I like him so much. Come on he shops at Thrift Stores!
